1.Basic Information
Ride On Cars are small cars with a different design for kids and babies, most of them are electronics with remotes and the article is base on them
- Weight Limit - standard Ride On Car includes one seat and can take until 30 kg (around 70 lbs).
- Age - the age is changing because kids are so different , some grow fast and some don't, from my experience most of the kids are able to start to use it when they are 1 year old until 7 years old, the weight is never a problem and the main problem is that they too tall for the cars and they don't have space for the legs.
- Speed - the good cars will come with remote and 3 different speed options, in most of the cars the highest speed is 5 KPH (around 3 MPH)
- Battery - Most of the cars will come with 12 voltage battery or 6 voltage, however, some of them can come with 24 voltage battery or 2 batteries of 12 voltage.
- 6 Voltage Battery - Usually will come with 1 motor on one of the back wheels, will come without special features to save battery and will last around 120 minutes, To charge it you will need to use 6 v charger and usually 8 hours of charge
- 12 Voltage Battery ( Or 2*6 Voltage Battery) - Usually will come with 2 motors one for each wheel of the back, even that some of them will come with 4 motors and in that case, the car will be 4 wheel drive. some of the 12 v cars will come with fancy features like LED Light or Video Player and more and battery will last around 120 minutes, However any feature that you use will take power from the battery and will short your battery time, for example, if you have LED Light and you use them the battery will not last more then 1 hour. To charge it you will need to use 12 v charger and usually 8-10 hours of charge.
- Music - the basic and the cheap cars will come with some music inside the car system without an option to play your own music, however, some of them will come with mp 3 or mp 4
- mp 3 - you will have an option to play your own music. It may be an option to plug SD card (memory card) or USB Flash Drive with your music or may be an option to plug AUX cable or it may be an option to connect device by Bluetooth and play your music. It also may be all of them if the car is a quality car.click here to see an example
- mp 4 - you will have an option to play music in one of the ways I describe above, However, you will also have an option to play your own Cartoons and Movies By inserting an SD Card (Memory card) or USB Flash Drive with your movies/cartoons. click here to see an example
- Seat - Some of the cars will come with a basic plastic seat and some with a leather seat, some of them may be an adjustable seat and some don't.
- Remote Control - Basic and cheap cars will come with 27 MHz remote control and usually will have only 1-speed option and low range. A better quality car will come with 2.4 GHz remote and usually will have 3-speed options and better range.
2. How can I find the right car for my kid
- If the toddler is younger 2 years I will recommend
- Look for a car that has MP4 inside. From my experience, the kids enjoy to sit in the car and just watch movies more than drive. The new generation born to a different world and they like to watch TV or YouTube on the parent's phone. For those reasons, they will 100% enjoy by using MP4 video player inside the car.
- Look for car that has Leather seat, Adjustable seat and has a good seat belt for kids.
- Look for car with 2.4 GHz remote control and have an option to drive slow speed and high speed
- If you interested to drive the car on grass and hills look for cars with 2 motors or 4 motors which has rubber strip in the middle of the tires.
- If you buy a car with 4 motor ( 4 wheel drive ) make sure it is 24 v or 2*12 v size 7 AH battery or 1*12 v size 10 AH battery
3.Common problems with Ride On Cars
First of all, we will recommend to watch this video
- Here i will explain why i don't recommend to buy a ride on a car online. As a owner of the toy store i am getting all kind of ride on cars , most of them made in china. They produced in big factories that produce hundreds of them every day. They doing an amazing job , however from my experience 30% of the cars may come with missed part or small problem. If you order online and you have a problem you will be asked to ship the product back in the box with all the parts to get a new one and to ship the product will cost you over a 100$ because it is a big size box. It also will cost you time (specially if you try to get the car as a birthday gift or Christmas gift). I really recommend to buy a ride on car in a physical store that you always can back if something wrong. Ask the employees if they can assemble the car for you and test it before you get it. If they have an experience it shouldn't take them over 15 minutes and when they test it make sure all motors are working. Make sure alsothe that the remote is connected to the car. Sometimes the car will work great and after 1 or 2 days you will have a problem. This is a good thing about the cars - if something is wrong you will find it quickly. You may will go back to the store you got it from to fix it ( usually it is a small problems like a bad part that the employee will be able to replace in 5 minute) and it is another reason why i don't recommend to buy Ride On Cars online.
- "I you drove the car and it is worked good , i charged it 8 hours and it is stay on only a few minutes" - there are 3 reason that can cause this problem
- Probably your charger is bad. You might charge it too long or might the charger was bad when you got it. Go back to the place you got it from and ask for a new charger or look on the back of the charger and order a new one with the same configuration online. You can also Email me a picture of the charger configuration and i'll send you a new one for 29.99$ (Free Shipping).
- Battery is bad (It is very rare for a new battery). If it is the problem roll down in this article and read - How to Replace Battery
- The charger input inside the car went bad (It is also very rare).
- "The Remote stop work but the car work without the remote" - there are 2 reason the can cause this problem
- you might just need to reconnect the remote to the car , every car coming with a instructions manual book and you will find there an instructions how to reconnect it.
- The receiver went bad , you will have to replace it with a new one. If the receiver is bad you will find it quickly. Usually, it will happen 1-2 days after you got the car.
- The lights are off - probably the wire come out. Track the wire and reconnect it.
- The wheels are not moving - probably the motors went bad. Can happen from water damage or over weight use. Replace the motors.
4.How to Replace battery
If the battery is not holding , or went bad (Every 2-3 years it is recommended to change battery)
Here is a video that explain it
- Track the battery - go to the instructions manual book and find where the battery located (usually it will be under the seat or under the hood)
- Plug out the battery (take off the wires and cut the glue if there are
- Check the battery configuration , probably it will be 12 v 7 AH or 6 v 7 AH , but some of them can be also 10 AH like the UTV MX.
- Go to the store you got it from or Online and ask for battery with the same configuration. You can also Email me a picture of the battery configuration and i'll send you a new one for 29.99$ (Free Shipping).
- Install the new battery in the same place the old one was before.
